Pecos Valley Mainline
From October 2022 to May 2023, we installed 10 miles of 12-inch steel pipeline east of Carlsbad to replace a 10-inch pipeline that dated to 1948. We also modified two above-ground stations to provide the ability to launch and receive tools that go inside the pipeline to perform regular safety inspections.
The $14 million project boosted reliability for our Southeast transmission system. Our engineering team determined that replacing the Pecos Valley Mainline was the best solution for the future, considering the cost to bring the existing pipeline into compliance with current federal regulations. The new, higher-grade replacement material allows the pipeline to be safely operated at higher pressure to boost capacity.
