Native American Energy Efficiency

New Mexico Gas Company works with tribal communities to provide no-cost energy assessments, upgrades, and efficiency improvements that help residents reduce energy use and lower utility costs.

Since 2018, NMGC has provided free services to over 524 customers across 11 tribal communities.

THE PROCESS

We work with tribal leadership and housing authorities to identify participating households and coordinate outreach. A kickoff meeting is held to introduce the process and services, followed by a no-cost energy assessment for each participating home, which includes a safety inspection.

Based on the assessment, eligible services are completed at no cost and may include installation of high-efficiency showerheads and aerators, water heater tank and pipe insulation, programmable thermostats, air and duct sealing, attic insulation, and carbon monoxide detectors.

2 & 3. Blown-in cellulose insulation helps to reduce heat loss, keep a home cooler in the summer, and increase energy savings and comfort.

4. A blower door test identifies areas where a home leaks air, providing opportunities to better seal the living space.
